I've always had a passion for computers and technology since I was a kid. I remember being fascinated by the Windows 7 GUI, learning to speed up my PC, and even downloading cracked games. With the support of my parents, I decided to become a computer engineer in grade 3, and I've been working hard towards that goal ever since. However, now that I'm in 10th grade and hearing about AI advancements like ChatGPT, I'm worried about my future. It seems like AI can do complex programming tasks that I used to think only humans could. Is pursuing a career in tech still safe, especially with the uncertainty around AI replacing jobs?

To be honest, the tech industry is facing tough times right now. There have been significant job cuts and salary declines, and it's pretty difficult for fresh graduates to land jobs. While I don't mean to discourage you, if you're seeking job stability, the current job market isn't very promising. It's hard to say if things will improve in the next 5-7 years, but there are still potential opportunities for innovation out there. You should keep that in mind!
While AI can generate code, it lacks the ability to understand context like humans do. It's our job to evaluate whether AI's output is practical. Also, the tech industry relies heavily on people for creative problem-solving and innovation. As long as we keep bringing new ideas to the table and use AI as a tool rather than a replacement, there will always be a need for human input in tech. Even in my years working in IT, there's always been a demand for creative solutions that AI can't fully replicate. We are the ones shaping the future, so don't worry too much about AI replacing you!
I hear the voice of an old-school engineer. My respects!
Don't lose hope! The tech landscape is changing, and with it comes new opportunities. Think of generative AI as a transition similar to moving from typewriters to computers. Yes, some traditional roles may disappear, but new fields are emerging, especially in AI and cybersecurity, which are in high demand. So, while the tech landscape has challenges, it also offers new, exciting careers on the horizon. Keep learning and adapting, and you’ll find your niche!
That's discouraging to hear! But since I have a decade until I graduate, do you think there's hope for me?
