Is a Low Code Developer Role Worth It for the Long Term?

Hey everyone! I started my job as a low code developer on Mendix back in March 2025. While it's a great opportunity, I've lost my coding skills, and I really miss coding. I'm worried that this low code experience might not help me in the long run. I've been advised to continue looking for companies that offer more traditional coding roles, especially if they pay a bit more. Should I stick it out for the two years of my bond and then look for core development jobs? If I decide to stay, how can I keep my coding skills updated in the meantime?

It's great that you have a job, especially with how competitive the market is right now. I recommend keeping an eye out for other opportunities, but don't quit your current job until you have something lined up. You might consider working on side projects or coding challenges to keep your skills fresh. That way, you’ll be ready if a coding job opens up sooner than you expect.

As long as you stay updated with the current tech trends, low code development can be a good career move. There are plenty of developers making a living with low code tools like Mendix. Just make sure you're still learning and practicing coding on the side to maintain your skills.
