Hey everyone! I recently bought a brand new 1TB Seagate One Touch portable hard drive from Amazon, and I noticed that the power-on count is 7. I was kinda expecting it to be zero since it's new. Should I be worried about this, or is it normal? The power-on hours show 0, and there's no indication of any data being written or read yet. What do you think? Should I return it?

Honestly, why even check that? It seems like people are too anxious about these things now. Just enjoy your new drive!
I've had SSDs with power-on counts in the thousands, and they still work perfectly fine. The 7 counts are probably just due to quality testing at the factory. There's nothing to worry about!
You really don't need to return it. Drives can be powered on and off multiple times during manufacturing, so those 7 power-on counts could just be from basic testing and setup—like creating a partition table for the drive.
I see, thanks for clearing that up!
Likely, it’s been tested during manufacturing. It's common for drives to have some usage data before they get to the consumer. It should be fine to keep it!
Is it bad to check the product you bought? What?
