Is a Ryzen 5 5500 CPU and RX 5700 GPU a Good Combo for 1080p Gaming?

I'm putting together my first PC build and I have a Ryzen 5 5500 6-core CPU paired with an RX 5700 8GB GPU. I've been getting mixed feedback about whether these components work well together for gaming at 1080p. I plan to play modern games like the latest DOOM titles, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Ready or Not, aiming for around 60 frames per second or higher. I'm fine with adjusting settings to improve performance. Any advice or experiences you can share would be super helpful!

You’ve got decent parts, and they’re well matched for 1080p gaming. They might be a bit dated, which could explain the mixed reviews you’re seeing. If you're building new, consider an AM5 platform with a more modern GPU for better longevity. But for now, yes, this combo should handle most games at 60 fps with the right settings.

Take a closer look at your budget. The RX 5700 is getting older and lacks some newer tech like ray tracing, so some of the latest AAA games might struggle or not run at all. I'd suggest aiming for at least an RX 6000 series or RTX 2000 series GPU. Also, the Ryzen 5 5500 is a more basic version of the 5600, which can affect gaming performance, so if you can, grab the 5600 instead for better results.

So you're saying that even if I lower the settings on the RX 5700, I might still run into trouble with new demanding games? That sounds like a reason to upgrade!

Your setup should do well for most games at 1080p, especially if you keep your settings moderate. I had a Ryzen 5 3600 with a 5700 XT, and I managed to hit around 150 fps in Rainbow Six: Siege at max settings. DOOM is a bit more demanding, but you should still get a solid performance. If you're concerned about future-proofing your build, you might want to consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600 for better gaming performance.

I'm using a similar setup and it runs fine even on a 2K display! Not the most intense games, but still holding strong at 60 fps in Helldivers 2 on medium settings.
