Is a Second-Hand Custom PC Worth It for 2025 Gaming and Editing?

I'm looking at a second-hand custom-built PC and I'm curious about whether its specs will hold up in 2025 for casual gaming (like Valorant), video editing, and general Adobe work. The seller is asking for $580, but I'm not sure if that's a fair price, especially since I don't have details on how old the PC is—just that it's a bit dusty at the moment. How easy is it to clean this up? Would a simple pressure blower and some wiping do the trick? Here are the specs:
- Case: Corsair 760T Graphite
- CPU: i7-6700K
- GPU: Zotac Trinity 3070 Ti
- RAM: 16GB DDR4 G.Skill Ripjaws
- Motherboard: MSI Z170 Gaming
- PSU: Corsair RM750X
- SSD: Samsung SATA 250GB
- A CD drive too.
Is this a steal for a first PC or should I look for something better?

This isn't exactly a great deal. The build needs a lot of work; the 6700K won't keep up with the processing demands, especially with a 3070 Ti. You're going to need a bigger SSD for anything productive, too. I'd recommend spending a little more to get something that won’t leave you wanting.

Exactly! You might end up frustrated with this setup. Better to invest a bit more for a modern build that fits your needs.

Honestly, that deal seems a bit sketchy for a 6700K build at almost $600 in 2025. The only standout part is the 3070 Ti, which is still decent, but the rest of the components are pretty outdated. If you’re planning on heavy video editing or even modern gaming, I'd steer clear and consider other options.

I'd say it's not a steal. While the GPU is okay, the rest of the components are outdated and might not be up to snuff for video editing or even casual gaming. Spend a little extra on something more current; your future self will thank you!

Definitely! Many newer builds can give you way better specs for just a bit more cash.

I wouldn't go for this one. The GPU is great, but the old CPU isn't going to perform well in video editing tasks. In my opinion, $580 is way too much for this setup. You're better off looking for newer components that will serve your needs much better.
