Hey everyone! I work at a sixth form where we manage around 800 devices, including both Mac and Windows systems. We have a license for Intune, but my colleague and I have run into some inconsistencies with it, especially regarding script deployments which can sometimes be unreliable. I'm considering whether to pair Intune with a solution like Datto or NinjaOne to help better manage our devices, keep them updated, and handle script deployments. However, I'm unsure if adding another tool is overkill. I've trialed NinjaOne and it seemed great, but I'd love to hear your opinions on whether this addition is necessary or excessive. Thanks!

It's generally recommended to use Intune for Windows and Linux and Jamf Pro for MacOS. You really need to do what's necessary to resolve the issues you're facing. Managing 800 devices effectively is crucial; otherwise, it might lead to management considering outsourcing, which isn't ideal. I suggest trying out any potential solutions to see if they actually alleviate your current problems. Whether something is overkill really depends on your specific needs.
We actually use a combination of Intune and Splashtop, and it's been working great across all our devices—Macs, Androids, and Windows alike.
Ninja is great, but remember it charges per endpoint. With 800 devices, that could cost you around $1500 a month. You might want to explore per-tech options or even look into open-source solutions like Tactical or Netlock. It could be worthwhile to sort things out with Intune first before investing in an RMM. You could manage deployment through Intune.
I’m a big fan of Ninja for RMM! It makes patch management and scripting a breeze. Just a heads up though, avoid Datto if you can.
Thanks for the recommendation!
With 800 devices, not having a dedicated RMM tool seems a bit odd! I’d jump on NinjaOne in a heartbeat. It's definitely not overkill; it's the resource you didn't know you desperately needed. If you want, I can even connect you with my sales rep!
RMM tools are totally worth it if you’re not fully utilizing Intune. They simplify your workload significantly. Definitely worth the cost.
Do you recommend using NinjaOne alongside Intune?
We use NinjaOne alongside Intune, and it works fantastically. Intune can be pretty unpredictable at times, but NinjaOne really fills those gaps.
Could you clarify what licenses you have for Intune?

Thanks for the insight!
