Is an 8-Pin CPU Power Connector Enough for My AMD 9800X3D?

I'm using an ASUS TUF 650-E motherboard that has two CPU power connectors: one 4-pin and one 8-pin. My PSU is a Lian Li 1200W Edge modular, which only has an 8-pin cable and no 4-pin cables. I'm wondering if I need to buy an adapter to convert one of the cables from 6 or 8-pin to 4-pin, even though the system powered up fine with just the 8-pin. Should I get the adapter before I start gaming on it?

You should be fine with just the 8-pin connector; it’s rated for 384W, and your CPU will likely use much less than that. So no need to worry!

Oh! Good to know, thanks for that reassurance!

Your 9800X3D has a TDP of 150W, which is well within the limits of what the 8-pin can handle. You definitely don’t need the 4-pin.
