I'm considering getting a 1TB external SSD from Fanxiang with a read speed of 2000MB/s to improve my gaming performance on my desktop. I have an RTX 4060 and an i7 10700F processor, but my internal hard drive struggles with newer games like Space Marines 2. My motherboard has two spare slots, but I've never upgraded before, which makes me anxious. Will using an external SSD actually solve my performance issues, or is that too good to be true?

While an external SSD is better than using a regular HDD, installing an internal SSD is pretty straightforward. Trust me, once you try it, you'll feel more confident in upgrading your PC!
Definitely check if your motherboard has slots for NVMe or at least SATA SSDs. Those will perform much better than any external drive.
I play games off two external SSDs without too many issues, but I'd still recommend using an internal SSD if you can. Installing one is pretty easy; my kid did it without any problems.
An external SSD won't give you the speed you need for optimal gaming. I recommend you go for an internal SSD instead. It's really not that complicated to install; you could watch a YouTube video for a quick guide, or even have someone do it for you if you're feeling unsure.
Using an external SSD doesn't work well over regular USB connections for gaming. To get decent speeds, you'd need Thunderbolt 4. Focus on getting an internal drive for the best results.

I agree! Internal drives are way faster and you’ll notice the difference in load times immediately.
