Is an Idle Temp of 50°C Okay for My i7-4700K?

Hey everyone! I have an i7-4700K processor, and I'm using a cooler I found at home, which includes a radiator with a fan blowing on it (though it's not attached to the radiator). I've been monitoring the temperatures with HWMonitor, and here's what I'm seeing: the package is around 46°C and the cores max out at 49°C. The temps fluctuate but never exceed 50°C. Right now, I have Discord and Reddit open on the web. My main concern is whether or not this is too high for idle temps. I'm a bit of a beginner in this area, and I'm worried about overheating my CPU and potentially breaking it. Should I leave it as is, or is there something I should do?

While 50°C is a bit warmer than I like at idle, it's usually okay as long as you have decent airflow in your case. If you're in a hot area or the thermal paste isn't applied well, that could be the reason for the higher temp. It's good to keep an eye on it though!

It really depends on your room temperature. Where I am, it can be about 31°C, and idling at 45-55°C is pretty normal. If your room is hot, it might just be the environment affecting it.

Yeah, my room does tend to get warm, and my PC is sitting on the ground, which probably doesn't help.

Your temperatures look fine! Most components can handle a lot of heat, and it's the temps under load that really matter. Generally, it's around 90°C that you should start worrying, so you're well within the safe range.
