Upgrading to an RTX 5090: Is My Setup Good to Go?

Hey everyone! I recently bought an RTX 5090 to upgrade from my old 3090 that I've been using since 2021. However, I ran into a few issues with my power supply and motherboard. Specifically, I'm wondering if my Be Quiet! 12 1000W PSU is compatible since it requires a 12VHPWR connection on the GPU. I've heard that I can't just use 2 of the 4 adapter ports on the GPU's adapter. Additionally, my motherboard is an MSI MPG Z590 GAMING CARBON WIFI. Will everything work smoothly together, or do I need to make BIOS changes for the PCIe setup? Lastly, is there a better GPU option that would fit my current build? Here are my specs: 11th Gen Intel i9-11900K processor, and I'm running BIOS version 1.30 dated from December 2021. Let me know if you need more details. Thanks!

It sounds like your main issue might just be with the HDMI connection. Make sure you switch it back to the GPU once it's all connected properly. As for compatibility, your motherboard should work fine without needing any major changes. The 5090 will run perfectly on PCIe 4.0, so no worries there! If you're looking for alternatives, the 4090 is better for future-proofing, but the 5090 is already a powerhouse!

Appreciate the input! I wasn’t sure if I needed to swap to PCIe 5.0, but this helps clarify things.

Upgrading should be pretty straightforward! Just use the adapter that comes with your 5090 and connect it using 4 PCIe 8-pin cables from your PSU. You should be set since your PSU has enough connectors. Also, no need to panic—or change anything in the BIOS. Your setup supports PCIe 4.0 already, which is what you’re on with the 3090, so you're good there!

Thanks for that info! I was worried I'd need to switch to PCIe 5.0 to get the RTX 5090 up and running.
