I recently got a WDBlack 1TB SN770 SSD for my desktop, and it's positioned between my CPU cooler and GPU. Do I really need to get an aftermarket heatsink from Amazon, or is it just overkill? I believe it's a PCIe 4 SSD by the way.

If your case has bad airflow, then a heatsink could help. But if things are cool and your room stays at a normal temperature, you should be good without it. Check those temps, and you can always grab a heatsink later if needed!
Honestly, it's not necessary to buy a heatsink unless you have really poor airflow in your case. Most setups handle it just fine. Just make sure you don't peel off the sticker from the SSD!
Consider your environment! If it's super hot where you live and your PC runs warm, a heatsink might be a good investment. Otherwise, with great airflow, you probably won't need it.
Getting a heatsink is usually a nice addition, but it's not a must-have. Just keep an eye on your overall airflow in the case; that tends to be enough for decent cooling.
I think they look cool, so I’ve got one on mine. But whether you really need one depends on your case and cooling setup. If your system runs hot, it might be worth considering.
