Is Anyone Else Experiencing High Failure Rates with New Dell Servers?

I've been working on a project using various models of Dell servers for Active Logic (formerly Sandvine), and I've noticed an alarming 30% failure rate right out of the box. So far, we've encountered issues like faulty DIMMs, a defective logic board, and possible problems with either a PCI card or the power supply. I'm curious if others have had similar experiences.

I switched to Lenovo servers and so far, they’ve been performing great! I can't say much about their support yet, but it's hard to believe how some of the Dell hardware has been failing. My last couple of R740s had major issues right out of the box.

On the other hand, I've set up five R660 servers recently with no issues at all. I guess it depends on the batch. We also had 400 Dell Pro 14 laptops earlier this year with no problems.

I totally hear you on this! I've noticed that the overall hardware quality seems to have really dropped. We ordered a bunch of new NAS drives and ended up with three that were dead on arrival. It's getting frustrating with newer server models too.

I usually defend Dell, but I was shocked when a batch of servers we received came without CPUs in the primary socket. It wasn't just one — multiple servers were missing CPU1 while the RAM was in place. Very disappointing!

Did this happen recently? Like in the last three months? Were you using a VAR and if so, which one? What did they do about it?

That's unbelievable! You'd think they would catch that during assembly.

Honestly, everything we've gotten from Dell this past year has been subpar. From laptops to desktops and servers, there have been overheating issues and USB failures. It’s just not reliable anymore.
