I've been wondering if API sprawl is a real issue in your workplaces or if it's just something I'm dealing with. We have a ton of APIs, and discoverability is all over the place with many different teams working on their own projects. I'm trying to convince my boss that this is a legitimate problem that needs addressing, but I'd love to hear how others are managing this situation!

From what I've seen, API sprawl is a big headache for many enterprises. Not sure why some folks aren't seeing it, but at my company, we deal with a lot of shadow and zombie APIs that just complicate everything. It’s definitely a problem that needs attention.

If your team is releasing APIs without proper planning, you've probably got bigger issues on your hands. Think about security—how are you managing certifications and renewals? It can get pretty messy. Using an API gateway is essential, and if you're not, you might really want to reconsider that setup.

In my experience, it really depends on the organization. At my last company, we had great communication and clear ownership for APIs, so we didn't have major sprawl issues. We also set up an API catalog before a merger, which helped a lot. Having everything go through one API gateway made it easier to manage and less chaotic overall.
