I'm considering switching my Gigabyte G5 KF5 laptop, which has an RTX 4060 and a 13th gen i7 processor, to Arch Linux for its customizability and control. However, I'm worried about whether my gaming performance will decline, especially since I won't be playing games with kernel-level anti-cheat. Are games, particularly DX12 ones, going to perform well? Also, will repacked games from Forest Gnome or similar sources run smoothly? Any advice would be appreciated!

Many games tend to perform decently on Linux, but your experience will vary. Some run smoother, while others might not be as optimized. If you want to play repacked games, check if there’s a Linux version. If not, using Proton generally allows them to run fine, so it's not usually a huge issue.
So, the performance of your games really depends. DX12 titles might have a dip in performance for a while, but there’s a fix coming down the line that should help. Other games can run either better or worse than on Windows, again depending on the specific game and whether you’re using its native version or running it through Proton. It's kind of a mixed bag, so my advice is to just give it a shot and see how your favorites run!
Arch is definitely better than most distros, just not quite on par with Windows for NVIDIA GPUs. For repacked games, if there’s no Linux version, Proton is your friend. It usually handles those games pretty well without too much hassle.

Should I switch now or wait a bit? What do you think?
