Is Arch Linux a good choice for my first Linux experience?

I'm planning to switch from Windows 10 to Linux for my personal computer, and this will be my first experience with the OS. I work as an engineer and have some familiarity with Linux commands due to my work in a RedHat environment. However, I have never switched operating systems before. There are so many Linux distributions out there that I'm feeling overwhelmed. I'm considering Arch Linux because it seems less restrictive, but I want to ensure it suits my needs. What do you think? I primarily use my PC for gaming, text editing (mainly through the Obsidian app), and internet browsing. What distro would you recommend?

I suggest creating a USB drive with a few different distros and testing them out. The best choice depends on your hardware and personal comfort level. It's better to explore what works for you rather than sticking to just one recommendation.

If you're unsure, I'd recommend starting with Mint. It's a safe choice for newcomers and you can always switch to something else later if you want.

I installed Arch just for kicks, and it turned out to be a fantastic decision for me! If you're willing to troubleshoot and do a bit of research, it really gives you control over your system. Just keep in mind that while you can use the archinstall, you'll still need some knowledge about drive partitioning.

I wouldn't rush into Arch since it's your first time. Try Mint or EndeavourOS first to get a feel for it. I personally use Cachyos, which is based on Arch but a bit more user-friendly.
