Is Arch Linux a good choice for my first switch from Windows?

Hey everyone! I'm planning to transition from Windows 10 to Linux for my personal computer. This will be my first experience with Linux, but I have a bit of experience working with RedHat at my job as an engineer, so I can handle bash commands. I'm exploring my options but am overwhelmed by the number of distributions available. Arch Linux has caught my eye because it seems less restrictive. I mainly use my PC for gaming, editing texts with the Obsidian app, and browsing the internet. Which Linux distribution would you recommend for a newbie like me?

The best choice is whatever distro is well-maintained and has a strong community. Seriously, don’t overthink it; you’ll find your groove no matter what you start with!

If you're unsure about which distro to pick, I suggest starting with Linux Mint. It's user-friendly and a safe bet for beginners. You can always switch later if you want to try something else.

I jumped straight into Arch without much experience, and it's been great! Just be ready for some troubleshooting because it doesn’t guide you like other distros. If you have some patience and are willing to learn, you can definitely make Arch work for you. I felt like I took control of my computer—it's been an incredible experience!

I wouldn't rush into Arch since it's your first time switching operating systems. Try Linux Mint or EndeavourOS first. I personally use CachyOS, which is also based on Arch, but it might be too much for a beginner right away!

Consider creating a USB drive with various distros to try out. Use whichever one feels right for your hardware and comfort level. Switching to a distro that other people recommend without testing it yourself might lead to frustration. It's all about finding what works for you on your Linux journey!
