Is Bazzite Unreliable with New Hardware?

I've been using Debian-based distributions for over ten years and completely switched from Windows in 2020. Recently, my family and I put together a home theater PC with some new parts, including an RX 9600 XT graphics card. I decided to try out Bazzite, inspired by its Steam OS-like UI. Initially, it worked fine, but after a few days, I encountered repeated system repair prompts. After attempting a fresh install, the same issue happened again. I'm wondering if Bazzite struggles with newer hardware or if there's something else going on. Should I revert to a more familiar environment like Debian with Timeshift, or stick with Bazzite?

Not an expert here, but if it were the video card, you’d likely have issues from the get-go. Without logs, it sounds like BTRFS might be flagging a drive issue or corruption, stopping writes to protect your data. I’ve used Bazzite for a couple of years without problems, though!

Honestly, I've found Fedora 43 to be much more stable than Bazzite. It had some weird quirks and felt a bit bloated. You could just install the gaming tools on a fresh F43 setup, and it would be more up-to-date, too.

That sounds promising! I figured Bazzite would be comparable to Fedora in terms of updates, given it's a gaming-focused OS.

Have you tried running the update tool? It might fix some underlying issues. Just a quick tip!

I've not faced any issues with Bazzite on my desktops, but I’m using older GPUs. New release graphics cards can cause problems across various distros. Also, there’s a known BTRFS issue that can mess up recovery after power failures, but beyond that, I’ve had a pretty smooth experience.

Good to know! I snagged an SSD to get by for now, hopefully it holds up until my new storage arrives.

Just a heads up, I think you meant the 9060 XT because the 9600 XT is from the early 2000s. Bazzite should support your components, but faulty hardware could also be a culprit.

I definitely went with one of those new AMD cards. If there's an issue with the SSD, I might just switch to another drive for stability.
