Is DDU necessary when upgrading from one Nvidia GPU to another?

I recently upgraded my GPU from an Nvidia 4070 to a 5090. Before swapping the cards, I uninstalled the old drivers and reinstalled the new ones afterward, and everything seems to be working fine. I attempted to use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) but encountered issues logging into my account in safe mode since my PIN wouldn't work. I'm curious, do you usually recommend using DDU for Nvidia to Nvidia upgrades?

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with DDU unless you're switching brands or having issues. I’ve gone from one Nvidia card to another several times without using it, and I've never faced problems.

There's no real need to use DDU unless something goes wrong. I've switched from a 1070ti to a 2060 super, and even to a 3060ti without needing to uninstall drivers every time.

I think it really depends on your setup. If you're just changing between cards from the same series, they often share the same driver. But if you’re jumping to a different series, DDU can help avoid headaches later.

I’m one of those who runs DDU with every driver update! 😂 But seriously, I just prefer starting fresh to prevent any potential old file conflicts, even if I know it might not be strictly necessary.

You can just go with the clean installation option when installing the new drivers in regular mode. DDU is usually only necessary if you're experiencing problems. If you want to try safe mode, remember to select the 'safe mode with networking' option and use your Microsoft account password instead of the PIN.
