If you want to excel, focus on skills like Cloud platforms and Software Engineering. DevOps roles blend IT and development, so you’ll need to be strong in both areas.

It’s a good ambition, but there are better entry points to consider. DevOps isn’t where you want to start your career; it’s more like the managerial role between Cloud Engineers and Software Developers. You may want to consider positions with clearer entry-level opportunities first.

If you think you have the necessary knowledge, then go for it! But, generally speaking, if you’re starting with little experience, DevOps could be a rough choice. You typically need more knowledge than what you'd find in a pure networking or programming role.

I think starting in DevOps might set you up for disappointment. It’s a really technical side of IT that needs a broad understanding of many tools and technologies. If you’re serious about it, I’d suggest looking up a DevOps roadmap to see all the knowledge you’ll need to develop.

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend jumping straight into DevOps as a newcomer. It’s a complex field and requires a good grasp of Unix fundamentals, which you’ll need to learn on your own. If you’re not comfortable working with different Linux systems, it might be tough. Most successful DevOps pros I know were once system administrators with coding experience. Important skills include Linux, Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), networking, CI/CD, security, and Kubernetes.
