I've been thinking about my career as a freelance programmer lately. My wife mentioned that she'd consider more kids if I could boost my income. With AI becoming more prevalent, I'm curious if programming is still a viable field. If I were to take a crash course in Python or C++, could I realistically earn around $60k a year?

Programming jobs are not going away anytime soon. But landing a role solely after a crash course in Python or C++ and expecting to make $60k probably isn't realistic. It generally requires more experience and knowledge than that.

Unlikely to hit that $60k mark without putting in real effort. Programming is competitive, and simply skimming through tutorials won’t cut it.

To be frank, it might not be the best fit for you if money is your only motivation. Popular questions like yours pop up a lot, and many don't realize that being a successful programmer often involves a genuine passion for the craft, not just the paycheck.

Isn't it true that $60k is pretty standard for entry-level roles?

Yes, programming is still a viable career choice. However, your mindset might be a bit off for it. Reaching a six-figure income, especially without solid effort and dedication, could be tough.
