Is Gaming on Linux a Good Experience?

I'm considering switching to Linux but I'm worried about whether my games will still work. I mainly play single-player games, and I've heard that multiplayer games often have issues. I want to keep the option for multiplayer available, but I know it varies by game. I've also heard rumors that Windows 11 will focus heavily on AI, and after my extended security updates expire in October, I'll need to make a choice. What's the gaming experience like on Linux?

I recently switched to Fedora, and while most games on Steam work, I've had trouble with online access, like with Sea of Thieves. It’s playable, but I can't log in at all. Overall, it's a mixed bag!

If you're worried about other launchers like Epic or GOG, check out the Heroic launcher. It has good support for organizing those games. Plus, Lutris is a fantastic tool for game installation across different platforms!

I've been gaming on Linux for quite some time, and aside from occasionally tweaking startup options, I haven't faced major issues. Most Steam games run smoothly. Just keep an eye on that ProtonDB site for performance ratings!

Some games run better on Linux than on Windows, while others don’t perform as well due to compatibility layers. If you really want to play all games, consider keeping a Windows setup for gaming. I have a dual boot and it works great for me!

Proton makes a lot of games playable on Linux, but the ones with kernel-level anti-cheat protection tend to fail. Definitely check out ProtonDB for your specific games—anything rated Gold, Platinum, or Native should work fine!

Feel free to dual boot and test your gaming setup on Linux before fully committing. I've been using Linux for 13 years and still dual boot for situations where I need Windows. It lets you enjoy both worlds!

Totally agree! Dual booting is the best way to ensure you have a fallback if something doesn’t work.
