Hey everyone, I've been keeping my old laptop running Linux for years, but recently I picked up a gaming PC and I've really gotten into gaming. My question is, how's the gaming experience on Linux these days? I've heard that it had a rough start in the past, especially with NVIDIA graphics drivers not playing nice. What's it really like to game on Linux now? Thanks!

If you want to check game compatibility, definitely look up ProtonDB. It gives a good overview of what's working (or not) for games on Linux. Just be prepared for some tweaking, especially with games that aren't on Steam.
You can enjoy gaming on Linux if you're on the right distro with good hardware. I've been gaming smoothly on KDE Fedora with my AMD setup; the performance competes or even outdoes Windows for some titles! However, laptop support seems to vary. You might encounter some quirks, but overall, it's a great experience now.
Which games do you recommend trying on Linux?
Gaming on Linux has really improved, especially with tools like Wine and Proton from Steam. However, if you're using NVIDIA, you might still struggle with their drivers as they remain somewhat closed-source. AMD GPUs generally offer a smoother experience due to better support!
Are NVIDIA drivers still that bad, though?
It's gotten better! NVIDIA released some of their source code recently, and most games run pretty well now even if they don't match Windows performance yet.
Honestly, gaming on Linux is pretty solid nowadays. Many games run great thanks to Steam, but not all titles are supported, especially when it comes to anti-cheat systems in multiplayer games. For me, single-player games work perfectly fine!
Yeah, I'm mostly into single-player games after 2018 myself. But does that mean I should avoid multiplayer games like Halo?
I've switched to Bazzite for gaming, and I love it! Games like Star Citizen are running better than they did on Windows for me. Plus, it comes with everything you need pre-installed, so it's super user-friendly!
I've heard about Bazzite too! Does it really handle everything for gaming?
I was hoping for a smoother experience right out of the box!
