I'm planning to build a new PC in the next few months, and I'm considering getting the 5080 as my first component. However, I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to install it in my current setup until I get the rest of the parts. I have a 1000W PSU, so power isn't an issue, but I'm concerned about potentially bottlenecking with my current 5800X. I primarily play at 1440p. What do you all think?

What resolution do you primarily game at? If it's 4K, then your CPU's performance might not matter as much. Even though the 5800X isn't the best match, it's still capable. I’m running a similar setup and don’t plan to upgrade immediately.
It's not a stupid idea at all! It's your card, so you can definitely enjoy it while you're waiting to finish your build. Plus, having that frame generation will be fantastic!
If you're gaming at 4K, the 5800X probably won't bottle neck it too much. It's still a strong CPU, and while it's not the latest, it should handle most games well. I have a similar setup and it runs fine!
True, even if there is some bottleneck, you should still be getting good frame rates. Unless you're using a really outdated CPU, it should manage well.
Would you rather use the GPU now or let it sit around and decrease in value? Definitely use it and enjoy the upgrade while waiting for the rest of your components!
Haha, when you put it that way, it makes a lot more sense to dive right in!
I actually play at 1440p, just updated my post!
