I'm looking to upgrade my RAM from 16GB DDR4 to a total of 32GB, and I've noticed that used RAM is available for about half the price. Is there any significant risk in buying RAM that has been used for 1-2 years?

Make sure you're not overpaying for used RAM, especially in this market where prices can fluctuate. If something goes wrong, you might end up regretting it, especially if warranties start shifting toward cash refunds instead of replacements. Personally, I bought a used 64GB kit, and RAM typically lasts a long time without wear.
The key issue is compatibility with your motherboard and existing RAM. I had a similar experience where I ordered RAM that was slightly faster than my existing sticks, and my system wouldn’t boot. I ended up returning it. It’s worth double-checking specs before making a purchase.
There’s a small risk with used RAM not working, or if it's been overclocked. However, RAM issues are pretty rare. I personally waited for DDR4 prices to drop, and it seems like sellers are starting to take advantage of the DDR5 hype. Just take your time and watch for good deals.
Buying used RAM can be a smart move, especially if you're saving money! Most used memory is perfectly fine and should work well for you. Just make sure to check the seller's reputation and the RAM's condition before buying.
If you can, get 2x16GB sticks instead of just one 16GB stick. This will help with compatibility and stability. Try to match the speed and timings as closely as possible since using mismatched RAM can cause issues. It’s trickier with used RAM since returns may not be an option.
You could’ve just set the BIOS to run at slower speeds if things didn't match.

What does OC mean? Also, I’m thinking about checking the RAM at the seller’s place since they are close by.
