Is it a good idea to swap my CPU for a cheaper one with integrated graphics after my GPU died?

My GTX 1050 Ti just broke and has been showing graphical glitches, particularly after I tried using USB tethering with my phone during an internet outage. Initially, there were only minor glitches when tethering, but it quickly escalated to glitches at startup and now it won't even get past the startup screen. I'm considering swapping my Ryzen 5 3600 for a Ryzen 3 3200G as a temporary fix since I can't afford a new GPU right now. Is this a smart move?

You might want to rethink that plan. It’s hard to believe you can't find any working GPU for around the same price as the 3200G, which isn’t even going to perform as well. Maybe check your local market—you could snag a good deal.

Honestly, just get a GPU instead. A used GTX 1050 Ti or even something cheaper like a GT 1030 would give you way better performance than downgrading your CPU to a 3200G. Don't waste your money on that swap!

That's a good point. I'll definitely look for a used GPU.

Don't stress about that tethering incident; it wasn't the cause of your GPU's problems. Just focus on getting a replacement GPU. You’ll find something better than sacrificing your CPU.

Swapping to a 3200G is definitely not the way to go. Even if a free GPU popped up, it would still give you a better experience than downgrading your CPU, which will hurt your performance overall. Keep an eye out for second-hand cards—they're a better investment right now!
