Is it better to buy a prebuilt or build my own PC for under $800 CAD?

I'm considering getting a PC for around 800 CAD. Should I build one myself, and if so, what are some good parts to consider? Alternatively, if I go for a prebuilt option, what are some recommended systems and where can I find them?

Honestly, right now isn't the best time for a DIY build with your budget. You're probably better off looking for prebuilt systems. Prices on components are high, and you'd end up spending a ton just on RAM if you go the custom route.

True, but that only applies if you're aiming for all-new parts. For 800 CAD, it's realistic to find decent used options, especially without going for the latest DDR5 tech.

For that budget, prebuilt options might be overpriced. I suggest sourcing parts individually through Marketplace, except for the power supply and the case—those should be new. Just watch out for used gaming prebuilt systems nearby.

With 800 CAD, new parts might be out of your reach. Instead, I'd recommend checking out sites like Facebook Marketplace for used systems. Often, sellers don't know the value of their old PCs, so you can snag a great deal. Look for setups with 16GB RAM (2x 8GB sticks) and aim for a graphics card with around 12GB VRAM. There are good prices on cards like the RX 6700 XT occasionally.

I actually found a build with an RX 6650 and a Ryzen 5 5600X for 800 CAD, but I'm a bit suspicious if it's legit.

I agree, search on Marketplace first. Buying components right now is tricky, and unless you get a sweet deal, new prebuilt systems will have outdated tech and low-quality parts.
