I'm considering setting up a gaming rig with an RTX 5070, a 1440p monitor, and a 4K TV like the LG C4 or Samsung S90D, which both upscale to 4K. I'm wondering if I should run the GPU output at 1440p when playing on the TV to reduce stress on the GPU. My thought is that the TV would handle the upscaling, so I wouldn't have to rely on DLSS to get to 4K. Is this a good approach?

Why try to avoid stressing your GPU? Sure, the TV has an upscaler, but DLSS is designed to make the most of your graphics card. The RTX 5070 should be able to handle 4K pretty well at 60fps for many games. If you ever run into issues, just lower the resolution in the game settings and use DLSS if it's available.
In theory, it might work, but honestly, the upscaling on TVs usually doesn't match what your GPU can do. I’d strongly suggest playing games natively at 4K and using DLSS instead of going for 1440p first; it’ll look better in the end!
Got it, thank you!
I’d recommend running at 4K with DLSS on Balanced or Performance settings if things are lagging. For your monitor, just stick with 1440p using DLSS at Quality or Balanced. DLSS gives you a nice performance boost without a big dip in quality, so make the most of it! 😊

I see, thank you!
