Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to PC building and I'm in a bit of a dilemma. A friend has offered me their old PC from around 2017/2018 that's just been sitting unused. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth upgrading this machine or if I should just invest in a brand new PC altogether. I'm aiming to stick to a budget of about $1300. Here are the current specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8400, Coffee Lake
- Motherboard: MSI B360M Bazooka
- RAM: Crucial DDR4 2400MHz 8GB
- GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Dual OC
- SSD: Crucial MX500 250GB 2.5" SSD
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

It really depends on what you want to run. If you're just looking for a little boost, adding another 8GB stick of RAM would be cheap and could help out a lot. But I'm no expert!
Honestly, it might be best to just get a new PC. You could potentially use the case from the old one, but everything else looks like it needs a complete overhaul.
If you're considering modern games or a QHD monitor, upgrading both the GPU and CPU would be smart. The i5-8400 can still hold up with newer graphics cards like a 4060 or 5060, but you'd really be looking at a full build for the best performance.
For sure! If you're serious about gaming, going for modern components will really pay off.
