I'm trying to figure out the best RAM configuration for my setup. I currently have a motherboard with just 2 slots and 2 sticks of 8GB each. I'm deciding whether to replace my current sticks with two 16GB sticks or to buy a new motherboard along with two additional 8GB sticks to go for a total of 32GB. Does it really make a difference whether I go for 2x16GB or 4x8GB? I've seen a lot of discussions centered around DDR5, but I want to clarify for DDR4 specifically. Any insights would be appreciated!

For DDR4, 2 sticks are preferred as they reduce stress on the memory controller. Stick with 2 unless you specifically need the extra RAM, then you might want to consider a better board with more slots.
I've had experiences with 4 sticks, and while they might work, they can be finicky, especially if you're combining different brands. Better to keep it simple with 2x16GB for long-term stability.
Going for 2x16GB is usually the better choice for stability, especially if you're planning on using XMP profiles. More sticks can stress the memory controller, potentially resulting in lower performance.
Definitely go for 2x16GB. It's more stable and often runs at higher speeds without issues. Adding more sticks can sometimes hinder performance, and in most cases, 4 sticks aren't needed unless your workload demands it.
If you don't need an excessive amount of RAM, just stick with the 2x16GB setup. Consumer motherboards typically operate on a dual-channel architecture, and adding more sticks can make stability a concern.
