Is it common to get a background check before receiving a formal job offer?

I recently finished two rounds of interviews for a Linux position, and I received a verbal offer along with links to complete my background check. However, I haven't received a written offer letter yet. They mentioned that I would get the letter once my background check clears. Is this a normal practice?

Definitely standard operating procedure. If there's anything on your background that wasn't disclosed, that could affect your job offer. But if you've been through two interviews already, it's a good sign!

I think it's normal too, especially as they want to ensure everything is clear before making it official. Just make sure they're not contacting your current employer without your permission.

It's pretty standard. I've experienced situations where offers come in before background checks, but I've also seen it take weeks afterwards. So, yeah, this is normal.

It's usually the case that they conduct background checks after an offer is made. Have you confirmed this process with their HR? It might be their policy.

This is actually pretty common. They typically don't want to finalize the paperwork without knowing if you'll pass the background check.
