I've wanted to build a proper gaming PC for a couple of years now. I sometimes spot great deals on GPUs, but they require that I have something built around them, and I'm unsure when I'll actually get the chance to do that. My plan is to build a PC now and use cloud gaming services like GeForce Now until I find a good deal on something like a 4080. I built a basic setup back in 2020, so I'm a bit behind on the latest components. I'm confident I can choose a motherboard and figure out a good CPU, but I'm curious if RAM configuration is still 4x8GB or if current standards have changed over the last 4-5 years. Ultimately, I'm aiming for a PC capable of 1440p gaming and would appreciate any advice on components.

Well, technically, you can cloud game on almost any setup. You don’t need to build a whole new PC right now just for that. Maybe it’s better to wait until you actually get your GPU before committing to the whole build.
Unfortunately, RAM prices have shot up recently, so I'd also recommend going for 2x16GB for the dual-channel advantage.
Wow, I’m new to this, but why is RAM so expensive now? I just saw a 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance kit for $200. Wasn’t it only about $80 a couple of years ago? It feels like it's tripled in price!

The plan is to have the PC ready by the time I find a good GPU deal. I’d rather not decide to build it in a hurry once I spot a bargain.
