Is it okay to use a WD Black SN770 2TB M.2 NVMe drive without a heatsink?

I'm planning to upgrade my system storage since I need more space right away, even though my motherboard is quite old. It has a Gen3 M.2 slot, but it doesn't have a heatsink. I know the WD Black SN770 is Gen4 and will likely run slower and cooler, but I'm curious about its performance. I'll be using it primarily for running Windows, virtual machines (I won't be running many simultaneously until I upgrade), basic software, and possibly some games. My main concern is whether the SSD will overheat without a heatsink.

Yep, you can definitely use it! In my last setup, I ran a WD SN770 and an HP EX950 without any heatsinks, and I had no heat issues whatsoever. It performed well!

Thanks for the reassurance! Sounds like I should be just fine without a heatsink.
