Is it okay to use single-channel RAM in a new PC build?

I'm setting up a second PC, and my current setup includes a Ryzen 7600X, a 7800XT graphics card, and 32GB of DDR5 6000 CL30 RAM. For the new build, I'm thinking of going with a 5070Ti and a 7800X3D. However, RAM prices are pretty high right now—about $450 for the same kit I have. Would it be a bad idea to split my RAM and use one 16GB stick in each PC for now, planning to buy a second kit later? Or should I just buy the RAM now since prices might not drop in the near future?

The difference between single-channel and dual-channel RAM isn't huge—usually around 5 FPS. However, do expect lower 1% lows, which could impact how smooth games feel.

You could remove one stick from your current PC and see how that runs with the new setup. Just test it out to see if you're comfortable with the performance before making a decision.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of doing tomorrow. Just to give it a shot.

It really depends on what you're using it for. If it’s mostly gaming and you’re okay with having 16GB, then you might be fine performance-wise, but there will be some loss in CPU efficiency that can affect gaming a bit.

Most of my use will be gaming, not much on the productivity side. I’ll definitely try it with one stick and compare performance.
