Hey folks! I'm currently working as a junior data engineer at a bank, where I've been for over a year. My skills include Python, SQL, and I've been working with an on-premise data lake. Before this role, I was an analyst, giving me a total of two and a half years in data-related jobs. I've started applying to new positions, but so far I've only received rejection emails citing a lack of experience. I'm curious if that's a valid reason for not getting hired and whether I should keep looking or change my approach. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Honestly, it also depends on the types of jobs you're applying for. Some roles may be looking for very specific experiences or skills that your current CV might not reflect yet. Keep applying, but maybe tailor your applications more closely to the job descriptions.
The issue isn't really about how long you've been working, but rather what you did during that time. 2.5 years should be enough for you to be considered a mid-level developer. It might be that your CV isn't showcasing your contributions and growth. Try to highlight specific achievements or improvements you've made in your roles!
You're providing minimal details here, but keep in mind that people land jobs with little to no experience – so having some experience like you do should put you in a decent position! Just keep pushing and don’t get discouraged.
I hadn’t thought of it that way. I’ll definitely update my CV with those points in mind! Thanks for the tip!
