I'm running an Optiplex 790 with 16GB of RAM across four slots and a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP. Given the soaring prices of RAM lately, I'm thinking about keeping these components as I upgrade my system over time. I'm wondering if there will be compatibility issues or concerns with lifespan for these parts. Also, I've noticed that the RAM is a bit older, and I can't find it on part picker, but I'd like to know if I should be fine using it as long as compatibility checks out. The RAM models are M378B5273CH0-CK0 1237 and M378B5273CH0-CK0 1229, which are the little green ones.

From what I can gather, you're likely using a mix of 4GB and 2GB sticks, totaling 12GB with the current setup. If you want to max out your RAM, you could swap in 8GB DDR3 sticks for a total of 32GB. Just remember, any new system you build later probably won’t even utilize DDR3 anymore, so plan ahead! Also, what GPU are you currently using?
Your Optiplex 790 has DDR3 RAM, which is quite outdated, and it’s unlikely that newer CPUs are going to support it down the line. So, while it might work for now, you should consider that as you plan future upgrades, you probably won’t find many new components that use DDR3. It's a good short-term solution, but keep that in mind for the long haul!

Thanks for the input! The GPU is the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
