Is It Safe to Ignore UPS Overload Warnings While Gaming?

I have a 360W UPS that works great for my work-from-home setup since my PC's power draw during usual tasks is low. However, when I play AAA games, my setup (5600X + 6700 XT) exceeds 360W, causing the UPS to beep with an overload warning, even though there's no issue with the wall power. Is it safe to ignore this beep while gaming, or could it damage the UPS? I don't care about my PC shutting down if the power goes out during a game, but I want to avoid losing a work call. I'm mainly concerned about whether I can safely let it beep while gaming without degrading the UPS.

A good workaround is to use a surge protector for your gaming setup instead of relying on the UPS. Just make sure it’s plugged into a different outlet. Avoid chaining surge protectors together; that can create issues.

It’s not a typical build question, but have you checked the UPS manual? Most UPS systems can handle overload for short bursts but will just switch to mains power, meaning you lose backup in case of an outage. If you’re gaming hard and it overloads, your PC will turn off if the power goes out, so be careful! You might want to separate your gaming equipment from the UPS and keep it for essentials like the router instead.

I appreciate the advice! I’m mainly worried about hardware wear from high consumption during gaming, so it's good to know I'm not jeopardizing that by letting it beep for a while.

If your UPS is beeping about an overload, it’s best not to ignore it—you might be risking damage to the unit. It's designed to handle a certain load, and consistently pushing it over that limit can degrade its lifespan.
