Is It Safe to Lay My PC Down When Moving It?

I'm moving soon and heard that when transporting a PC, it's important to either remove the GPU or lay the case down with the motherboard side down. I want to know if it's okay to lay it down in its original box with some foam around it for protection. What do you think?

When I transported mine from California to Michigan, I removed the GPU because of all the potential rattling. For short trips, though, lying it motherboard down works too—just watch those potholes!

Laying it down is definitely a good idea. It keeps the weight of the CPU cooler and GPU from stressing the components during the drive, especially when hitting bumps.

If your GPU is a standard size, lying it down should be fine. But if you have a large custom GPU, it might be safer to remove it before transport. Better safe than sorry!

What about the RX 9060 XT? Is that considered average size?

When I moved, I took out both the video card and RAM to prevent any movement. I laid the case on its side with some blankets underneath. If you have a bulky CPU cooler, it's wise to remove it or use those foam pads that builders use.

If your GPU is bigger than your motherboard, then definitely remove it before laying the case down!

It's generally safer to remove the GPU and lie it down regardless of its weight. It just adds an extra layer of safety.

I've done it many times without any issues. Just lay it down, and you'll be good to go!
