Is it safe to leave my unmounted 4TB hard drive loose in my PC?

I have a 3.5-inch 4TB hard drive that's currently unmounted in my PC case. It's just sitting there, and I'm wondering if that's okay. I don't move my PC around much, so I think it should be fine, but I could really use some reassurance. What's the deal with leaving it unmounted?

Just to throw in a perspective, leaving it unmounted can lead to some issues like bumping it while it's running or it getting jostled around. I recommend securing it somehow, just for peace of mind.

While it's not ideal to have a hard drive just lying around in your case, it's probably not going to cause any major issues unless you move your PC. If you're concerned about it, you could tape it down to avoid any potential rattling or damage if you do end up moving the case later.

From my experience, it should be fine! Just make sure it has some air separation from the metal parts to prevent overheating. That said, taping it down could help avoid any loose connections or problems down the line.

Honestly, the idea of an unmounted drive is driving me crazy! If you have the space, you should definitely mount it properly. It doesn't cost much, and it helps protect the drive and everything else inside your PC.
