Is it safe to play games using more VRAM than my graphics card has?

I recently started playing Resident Evil 2 and set the graphics settings to max. I have an RTX 4060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, but the game is using up to 13GB. I'm wondering if it's safe to continue playing it like this. My frame rates seem fine at around 200, but I'm concerned about the VRAM usage. Any insights?

Yeah, it’s safe to play like that! If your VRAM runs out, the game will just use system RAM. It might affect performance, but it won’t damage anything—just be prepared for potential slowdowns.

The VRAM usage you see isn’t always accurate; that’s just how much it can potentially use. So don’t stress too much about hitting that limit.

Right, your GPU will just dip into your system RAM once VRAM is full. Just be mindful that it could lead to inconsistent performance.

Just go for it! The worst thing that can happen is some lag. You can always tweak the settings if it gets unplayable.

It's perfectly fine as long as your frame rates are good. Just remember, if it goes beyond VRAM, you might experience some stuttering since system RAM is slower.
