Is it safe to test a GPU on a possibly damaged motherboard?

My PC was flooded about a year ago, and while it boots up, I'm only getting a black screen. One of the RAM slots is damaged (along with that RAM stick), but the other slot seems fine. I swapped RAM sticks to rule out that issue, but it's still not working. I'm considering trying my spare graphics card to see if that gets my system to boot. However, I'm worried about potentially damaging the spare GPU since it's still functional and I'd like to avoid destroying it. My motherboard doesn't have any display connections, so I'm wondering what the risks are of using a GPU if the motherboard is faulty.

There's definitely a risk of damaging the GPU. Water damage can create shorts or other electrical problems, so if you're worried about your spare GPU, it might be best to avoid testing it on that motherboard.

I feel you! I would try connecting a display to the motherboard ports, but I noticed they have a "do not connect" sticker. Any idea why that is? This PC is pretty old.
