Is it safe to test a potentially broken device in a different outlet?

I had a bit of a scare this morning when I noticed smoke coming from both my TV and monitor, accompanied by some popping sounds. I quickly unplugged everything, but then my power went out in the room. I checked the circuit breaker, but it didn't trip. I also plugged in a lamp, and it flickered, so I unplugged that too. Now, I'm not sure what's broken, but I'm curious if I can try plugging my devices into a different outlet to see if they still work. Should I wait for the insurance to come check everything out before touching anything? Thanks for any advice!

If you heard popping sounds, it’s best to steer clear of those devices for now. They might be seriously damaged. I’d recommend calling an electrician to check the outlet too, as it could be faulty. Safety first!

But if I’m really itching to know if my PC still works, could I try plugging it in somewhere else? What if it’s broken—would that cause more damage?

Definitely don’t plug it in if you think it’s damaged! You might just end up doing more harm in the long run.

Honestly, it’s not safe at all. If something is smoking or making strange noises, it’s likely done for. Your best bet is to leave it alone and let a professional take a look at everything.
