I ran into a problem with my PC—it showed a black screen and none of my troubleshooting efforts worked. So, I ended up switching it off using the PSU power switch. I did some reading and found info suggesting that turning off the power switch can cause data corruption, even when the computer is idle. Is that true?

There's a small chance of data corruption when you just cut the power, but sometimes you don't really have a choice. If your PC is frozen, turning it off this way might be the only option. Fingers crossed it boots back up fine!
Using the power button for about 5 seconds can do the trick. Just remember, it's not good practice to turn off your PC this way regularly. If it does happen, just let Windows take care of any repairs afterwards, and it should be fine.
It's not the ideal method, but usually, you won't cause too much damage. It’s best to hold the power button for 5-10 seconds instead of using the PSU switch. This way, you’re giving your system a chance to shut down properly.
Right! I think the key is not to make it a habit. If it's locked up, just use the power button.
