I've had this weird smoky chemical smell coming from my desk for the past couple of months, ever since I overloaded the power strip. I replaced a few components, but the smell persisted. Today, when I woke my PC from sleep, one fan started spinning so fast that it sounded like it might break. I have important files that I need to back up, but I'm worried that it might not be safe to turn on my PC, especially since I can't get it to a repair shop until next week. Should I risk powering it on just to save my files, or is that a bad idea?

If you're hearing strange noises from the fan, it might be better to unplug that fan and see if your system can power on without it. Safety first!
