Is it safe to undervolt my GPU with an 850W PSU?

I recently got a Gigabyte Master Ice 5090, and it's been working fine on my desktop. However, whenever I try to play games, the fans go wild and my PC just shuts off. I followed a guide to undervolt it, and now it handles games without crashing. But I'm wondering if it's safe to keep using it this way, or if I should invest in a new PSU? I'm using an EVGA 850W Gold Supernova currently. If I do decide to upgrade, would a 1200W or more be better suited for my setup? I also have an i7-13700k and a bunch of USB devices connected.

Just get a new PSU. No sense in risking your setups’ integrity, especially when your new GPU deserves better!

Honestly, it’s like trying to run a high-performance car on low-grade fuel. Just go ahead and get a new PSU! Spending on better power supply is worth it when you have a $2500 GPU. You want to ensure you’re not cutting corners.

Exactly! A reliable PSU is crucial for stability, especially with that kind of investment.

I think it's time to get a new PSU. If your system was turning off while gaming before, it was likely drawing more power than your 850W can handle, even with undervolting. It’s better to be safe and go for a 1200W PSU to avoid any risk of failure.

Agreed! You don’t want to risk damaging your new GPU. A solid PSU can make a big difference.

Don't take the chance of running your setup with that PSU. A new one will ensure more power and stability. Go for something in the 1200W range.

Definitely upgrade your PSU if you can. The 850W may be pushing it too close for comfort, especially if you're running additional USB devices too. Better safe than sorry!
