Hey everyone! I'm excited to start building my new PC this year. I received a Corsair RM850i power supply for free, and it's still in its original sealed box. However, I noticed that it was manufactured in 2017, and the 10-year warranty is nearing its end. Given that it's been stored for so long, do you think it's safe to use in my new build? Any advice would be appreciated!

Keep in mind that some components like electrolytic capacitors may have aged even if it was unused. It might not perform as expected. Do you have an older system you can test it with before using it for the new parts? Would you be okay if it didn't work and damaged something?
You should be fine using it! Just keep an eye on the fan when you first turn it on.
Take some time to look into the protections your PSU has. It might be better to grab a new one, especially since the RM850i isn’t top of the line anymore and may have outdated protections.
I recommend picking up a power supply tester for around 10-15 bucks/euros. They're really helpful to ensure your PSU is running properly before you plug it into your expensive new components.
Honestly, as long as the PSU is a solid model and has enough wattage for your setup, you should be good to go. I used a second-hand EVGA 1000W Gold for my build, and it's been performing like a champ!
It might work fine, but the oil in the fan bearing could have gummed up after all that time in storage. Just make sure everything is in good shape before powering up.
Thanks for the tip! I'll check the fan closely before using it.
