Is it safe to use my laptop with a dead battery until I can get it replaced?

I've been using my HP laptop for about 4 years, and for the past couple of days, it's been draining its battery really fast. Now, it's stuck at 0% even when I charge it, and it dies as soon as I unplug the charger. I suspect the battery is dead, but I'm not sure if I can find a replacement locally. Given that I have some deadlines to meet, I need to know if it's okay to continue using my laptop for basic tasks like MS Word and Google Chrome while it's plugged in. Any advice would be appreciated!

I had a laptop with a dead battery that I used for a long time without issues. Just make sure there’s no noticeable swelling. If you see the case lifting, it might be better to get it replaced sooner rather than later.

I'm a bit worried since both screws on the back have come out, and the case next to the charging port is slightly lifted. Should I be concerned about that?

Yeah, it sounds like your battery is dead. You should be fine using your laptop while it's plugged in, but keep an eye out for any overheating or signs of swelling near the battery area.
