I've got an RM1000X power supply from 2021 with three PCIe 8-pin (6+2) connectors. Two of these connectors are split, and I'm wondering if it's safe to use them with a 5090 GPU, or if I should get a different cable that doesn't have those splits.

Honestly, I'd recommend getting a PSU with a direct 12VHPWR connector. They've made improvements to prevent issues like melting GPUs with PCIe power adapters, but I've still seen it happen. I wouldn't risk it with a $2500 GPU!
It's totally up to you. If you don't buy the additional cable from Corsair, you'll need to stick with that adapter. Just make sure to use it safely!
I’m using the 4x adapter that came with my GPU without any issues.
