Is it the Charging Port or the Battery That’s the Problem?

I've been trying to fix my dad's old Asus X550CA laptop, and I've noticed the battery is stuck in a weird situation where it always shows 0% even when plugged in. I'm wondering if I should replace the charging port or if it's just the battery that needs to go. Any advice?

Yeah, the battery is definitely the issue here. If you're getting power while plugged in, that usually means the charging port is fine. Just get a new battery, and you should be good to go.

If your laptop can run just fine while plugged in, your charging port is likely okay. Since the battery shows 0%, it seems like the power is coming solely from the PSU. I’d recommend getting a new battery; it sounds like that's your issue.

Given it's from 2013, the battery is likely the culprit. Most rechargeable batteries last around seven years, so it's probably exhausted. If you replace the battery and it still doesn't charge, then you might want to check if the AC adapter needs replacing too.

It sounds like your battery might just be shot. Since it's an older laptop, try running a battery health report to get some details on its condition. You can do this using the Command Prompt or PowerShell by typing `powercfg /batteryreport`. This will generate an HTML file showing battery info like capacity and cycle count, which can help you decide if it needs replacing.
