Is It Time to Upgrade from a 2070 Super to a 5070?

Hey everyone! I upgraded the rest of my PC setup last year, but I've been holding off on getting a new GPU until now. I'm currently using a 2070 Super alongside an i5-14600KF and I play at 1440p with a 165Hz monitor. I'm mostly into competitive shooters, but recently, I've started to notice the 2070S is limiting my performance at this resolution. I've got my eye on the new 5070, which is priced at $550, but I'm wondering if now is the right time to upgrade or if I should wait. I'm also considering the potential of the 9070 and 9070XT with their 16GB VRAM options. Is the 12GB on the 5070 sufficient, or should I hold out for a more powerful card? Would love your thoughts!

It's tough to predict the perfect time to buy graphics cards since prices fluctuate so much. That said, the 5070 should provide a solid upgrade from your 2070. If you find it at MSRP, it could be worth it for the performance boost, even if it doesn't have as much VRAM. Just keep an eye on your local prices.

Yeah, I agree. The timing is tricky, but I've also seen prices dip a bit. Just make sure to factor in your sales tax too!

Honestly, I'd say you should aim for at least 16GB of VRAM. While 12GB might be okay for now, it probably won't cut it for long term.

If you're really set on the 5070, make sure to check for a good deal. Just a heads up, the 9070XT is likely to be priced higher, like around $729. The 5070ti also isn't far off at $749, but if you can grab the 5070ti at MSRP, that might be a solid choice.

You might want to check out Newegg's trade-in program, where you can get a decent discount on a new GPU. Trading in your 2070S could save you about $123!

Thanks for the tip! I do want to keep my founders edition 2070S, though, since it's a collectible.

Considering your current GPU is already 6 years old, if you're planning to stick with a new GPU for the long haul, I'd recommend waiting for a 16GB card. The 12GB in the 5070 might become a bottleneck in just a few years, especially for future games. If you're really hoping for a long-term solution, it's best to hold out for something with more VRAM.

Also, do you think there will be driver support for these cards in 6 years?

What about the 5070ti? I heard that's going to have 16GB.
