Is it time to upgrade from my i7-8700K?

Hey everyone! My local computer store has some great sales going on, and I'm considering an upgrade to the AM5 platform and DDR5 memory. However, I'm hesitating because the total cost will be around $600. Do you think this upgrade is worth it? Here are my current specs:

- Intel i7-8700K
- RTX 2080
- 16GB DDR4 RAM (2x8GB)

I'm also thinking about using the old parts to build a PC for my girlfriend, but I'm not sure if I should spend this money or if my current setup is still good enough. I can still play most games on max settings without issues.

Your plan makes sense if you need another PC! But honestly, if your current setup works fine, you don’t have to upgrade right now. I upgraded from an 8700K to a 9800X3D, and it was a significant leap for me, but it really depends on your personal gaming experience.

Ask yourself: is your current PC meeting your performance needs? If the answer is yes, then just stick with it. If no, then sure, it might be time to upgrade. It really boils down to your specific requirements and whether you’re feeling any performance limitations.

Considering your 8700K and 2080 still run games decently, you might want to hold off. $600 is quite a lot for just a slight performance boost unless you really want to future-proof your system.

At the end of the day, it's a personal choice. If you're feeling good about your current setup and it's serving your needs, maybe wait it out a bit longer.

If you're still happy with how your PC performs, there's no immediate need to upgrade. Yes, newer hardware has definitely improved since the 8th generation, making it a tempting option, but if you're not feeling any performance issues at the moment, you might want to hold onto your current setup a bit longer.
